One of the best things about being a therapist is that the opportunities to learn are endless. Our understanding of the brain continues to grow and with that understanding comes new ways of helping those who need it. Last year I decided to invest in learning EMDR therapy and enrolled with the EMDR Centre London. I am very pleased that I am now qualified to offer EMDR in Central London.
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and is a safe and effective way of dealing with anything from depression to anxiety to trauma. Recently it featured heavily in the press. Prince Harry revealed that he has visited an EMDR therapist to help him deal with his own mental health. It is a very interactive style of therapy which allows the client to be very engaged in the process. It has been designed with client safety at the forefront. For this reason clear protocols have been created for the therapist or counsellor to use. I have found it to be effective with both teenagers and adults.
If you want to read a little more about the technique, it is explained very well on this page. They provide a really good explanation of what it is.
I can now offer face to face EMDR in Central London. It does need a bit of time and a typical session lasts 90 minutes. If you are interested, give me a call and I will aim to see you as soon as possible.
